5 WAYS TO WARM YOUR SOUL NICOLETTE TSAFANTAKIS
If you're Canadian, you know our winters can be pretty rough. Sometimes it's so cold that not only are we cold on the outside but on the inside as well. Take a look at the 5 ways I warm up my soul and maybe you can warm yours up too!

Coffee.

This warm drink fixes everything! I can't even begin to explain how coffee has gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life. The list of coffee brands, blends, roasts and styles are endless. Find that one coffee shop in your area that serves great coffee and great energy. There are two very different local coffee shops that I love to visit: Monigram in Cambridge and DVLB in Uptown Waterloo.

Consume.

Is there anything better than FOOD?! No. No, there isn't. Food is a way to warm my soul, especially comfort food. We all have different perspectives on what comfort food really is. Sweet potato is a fantastic go-to food which can be prepared in so many ways - but the BEST way is loaded! Usually I load my baked sweet potato with whatever I can find in the kitchen such as avocado, black beans, red peppers, onion, and most importantly...CHEESE! CREATE.

The beauty about creating to warm your soul is that you can create WHATEVER you want! Some like to draw, paint, and write - but on this particular day I got to make a mug as a birthday present at Play With Clay in Guelph! There's also a Cambridge location (aren't options great?). I love being crafty. I wouldn't call myself an expert because, honestly, you really don't have to know what you're doing when creating art. It's all about expressing yourself. COUNT.

Counting your blessings to warm your soul can be easier said than done. Everyday I try to take a moment to remind myself about all the blessings in my life such as the simple things - food on the table, roof over my head, a source of income and my health. Although these are great things to be thankful for, we sometimes need to go a bit deeper (this might get random). For example, I am thankful for the quarterly phone calls with my best friend which can last for up to 3 hours. I am thankful for the ability to research anything I want with the magic of technology and the internet! Count your blessings on a piece of paper or even keep a document on your computer to keep adding to. It's totally worth it.

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Personally, I wish I could have dedicated more time during university to meditate or read some good books that really suck you in. There are several mediation guides and fantastic reading lists online. Right now I'm working on The Hate You Give which I heard is turning into a movie, so exciting! If you are interested in meditating, I suggest sound gifts from Tom Kenyon - when I started my inner peace journey (more like the time in my life I wanted to calm down my teen angst) my Mom's friend (I call her my spiritual guide) introduced me to this website, and now I introduce it to you.
